AKA AUTO - The Israeli military (IDF) on Wednesday (9/10/2024) said its troops killed Hezbollah figure in Syria, Adham Jahout. The Israeli Air Force named Jahout as an intermediary who conveyed information from Syrian regime sources to Hezbollah. The IDF said the airstrike took place in the Quneitra region, southwest Syria, near the Golan Heights which was annexed by Israel.
Israeli authorities rarely comment on individual attacks in Syria, but have repeatedly stated that they will not allow archenemy Iran to expand its presence. The announcement of the airstrike came hours after Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi vowed to continue hitting Hezbollah. Quoted from the AFP news agency, he said that attacks would continue without stopping to prevent the group from rising.
Hezbollah has historically relied on Syria, its ally, to transport weapons and other equipment from its main backer, Iran. Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon are also the Syrian government's most important allies in the country's more than decade-long civil war.
